QuickBooks Point of Sale is a software program that is designed to assist small business owners in keeping track of sales and inventory. Business owners can use the program to ring up product sales, and to see immediately how much inventory they have left. The program is intended to function as an alternative to the traditional cash register, and it works alongside other QuickBooks accounting software. Using the program for inventory is intended to be much simpler; once inventory is logged into the program, all changes update inventory status automatically.
Open QuickBooks Point of Sale, and select “New Item” from the tab for “Inventory” on the main menu. Enter the information that you want to include for the individual item that you are adding to the inventory. Specify the department to which the item belongs, the name of the item and any other appropriate details about it, such as color, size, brand name, and so forth. Additionally, you can upload an image for the item.
Specify the quantity of the item that you currently have in stock. Once you have added the quantity, the program will update each time you sell an item. QuickBooks Point of Sale also allows you to create a reminder for reordering once the quantity drops to a certain level.
Add all information for the price of the item and the order cost for yourself. The item price will apply to sales of the item, and the order cost will help you keep track of profit and loss each time you have to replenish the inventory for the item. Be sure to save the information after you add each item. Failing to save the information can result in you losing everything you have added.
Continue adding details about each inventory item. Once you have added all of the product information that you intend to include, click on “Item List” under the tab for “Inventory.” This will allow you to see all of the items in your inventory and enable you to make any changes.
